Father's Day Crafts that Dad will Love

Craft time is a great time for kids to create the best gift ever for dad.  Here are some ideas to get you started.

Crafts by Amanda
Dad Rocks Paperweight
What You Need
1/4 cup salt
1/2 cup flour
1/4 cup water
bowl
cookie sheet
1/2 cup pea gravel

What you do

Preheat oven to 250 degrees F.
Mix flour, salt and water together in a bowl. If dough is too sticky add small amounts of flour until it is doughy and pliable. Be careful not to add too much as the dough will dry out and your creation will crack.
Shape a piece of the dough into a ball in your hands. Place the ball on the cookie sheet and flatten to about 1/2″ thickness.
Carefully select pieces of pea gravel to spell out “DAD ROCKS”. Press them firmly but gently into the salt dough.
Bake your paperweight for 2-2.5 hours until completely dry.
Remove from oven and allow to cool before handling or removing from cookie sheet.

Optional: You can spray your creation with acrylic sealer or paint it with a clear coat sealer.

Personalized Coasters
Help kids make coasters that Dad will treasure forever. Using tumbled-marble tiles (available at most home improvement stores), stamp a decorative pattern. Then place your little one's hand print on the tile. Make sure to cover it with a waterproof glaze to prevent the ink from fading or washing away.

Puzzle Frame
Materials:

large coloured Popsicle sticks (tongue depressors)
momstown.ca
paint (if your sticks are not coloured)
puzzle pieces (can be random and mixed up)- sold at most Dollar Stores
great photo of your child
paper

Directions:

1.  If your sticks are not coloured, paint them and let them dry before you assemble the frame.

2.  Glue 4 large sticks to make a square (alternating and overlapping at the corners).

3.  Glue in your photo.

4.  Decorate the border of your frame (the sticks) by gluing on random puzzle pieces.

5.  Write a note for Dad that says "I love you to pieces" and glue it to the bottom of the frame.

momstown Milton Top Local Mother's Day gift ideas!

It really isn't hard to please us mamas; although some hubby's make it seem like they were looking for the meaning of life when trying to decide what to get us as a Mother's Day Gift.  Here are some gift ideas that are sure to be a hit with most moms.  Don't forget to show your hubby this list as a subtle hint!

1.  Spa day - This is a hit with any SAHM, WAHM or moms who work outside the home.  We all need a break once in awhile to concentrate on us.  With all the work we do planning and organizing our family life, we almost always forget about us.  A day at the spa will give us the relaxation that we all need.  (Try to remember and have a massage thrown in, carrying those heavy babies is tough on our shoulders and backs).  Vixen Nails & Spa offers great services for mom.

2.  Special mementos from the kids - Getting a handprint ornament or a photo book with our favorite pics of our kids shows that you put a lot of thought into the gift and it will surely bring a happy tear to our eye.  Wee Piggies and Paws and Simply Creative are wonderful places to visit for the perfect gift

3.  Sleep - Get the kids dressed, make their breakfast and take them out in the morning giving us a chance to sleep in.  I don't think I have met a mom out there who couldn't use an extra hour to sleep on the weekend.

4.  Family jewellery - Be it  handmade jewellery with our kids names or fingerprints on it or a family ring/necklace that has our kids birthstones in it, this will be a big hit.  Lovelinx has some beautiful pieces I know any mom would love.

5.  Flowers - A beautiful spring bouquet to brighten up our day.  We don't expect you to go over the top with 24 roses.  Some nice daisies, tulips or lilies will put a smile on our face. Drop by Crawford's Garden Centre to choose from a variety of options!

6.  Thank you - A simple thank you from hubby and the kids showing us you really appreciate all that we do is a great gift.  Put it in a special handwritten note or a handmade card from the kids so we can keep it forever.  Check out our momstown site for some wonderful craft ideas

Any and all of these gifts will go a long way.  Remember, Mother's Day is on May 12 this year so its time to start planning:)
