We separated into groups of 2's and 3's and had the mamas read the instructions out loud to the participants so that they would know how to play the game. Listening ears are important so that you don't miss a step and if the kids are learning to read you can give them the instructions and encourage them along with a little guidance.
UNO Moo!® was a great game for the kids to practice identifying a variety of animals and for colour recognition. The pieces are the right size for little hands to hold on to and the "all in one" carrying case makes it perfect for travelling.
Steady hands were a big plus at the Parrot Pile-Up™ . This game had our little thinkers trying to figure out the best plan of action to stack various items onto the parrot and then very carefully slide it over to the next player without tipping it over. This game was great for teaching children that if first you don't succeed - try try again - which they did over and over.
Chipmunk Chompers Game™, was a favourite for both our moms and tots. Kids loved the chomping chipmunks and moms liked that the game encouraged spelling and pattern recognition in a fun way.
Watch out for flying hay bales in this action packed game of Go Piggy Go! ™ Players had to get safely across to the food trough before the Big Bad Wolf tractor fired on your pig. Kids had to count out loud the number of spaces to move and by doing some simple math they could split their move between several pigs. The squeals of delight could be heard in the other room when the tractor was put into play!
If you build it , it WILL be destroyed! The Angry Birds Knock On Wood Game came to life as structures were built and then knocked down by angry birds launched from a slingshot-style launcher. Players had to strategize to figure out how to line up the launcher correctly in order to hit the intended target. The weight of the bird, the amount of force when launching and the distance of the structure were all key elements that had to be considered before letting go - Birds Away!
ALL of the games were well received and the fact that they focused on a variety of key learning components was a bonus. Here's what our mamas had to say about them:
"My personal fav was Uno Moo. It was easy to play, and very age appropriate. Next would probably be the Chipmunk Chomper. Kaitlyn is good at letter recognition so she liked it, whereas Matty I think just liked the Chomping Chipmunks" L. Roach
"William really liked the Angry Birds, he has a similar one. He also liked UNO Moo and Chipmink Chomper. I also liked Chipmunk Chomper because there were different options to play from chomping colours to letters. It really got the kids thinking. Paisleigh really seemed to like the Parrot stacking game and UNO Moo. So I think I know one game that Santa will be bringing them"
K. Balfour
"When I asked Dante what his favourite game was he initially said all of them! I did observe that he liked each of them but upon pressing him further he said he liked Parrot Pile Up and UNO Moo the best. Interestingly I would have said he had the most fun with Chipmunk Chompers...he liked making words and patterns and I liked that it taught different concepts. Thanks again for a fun time." Ms. Nat
A big shout out to Mattel for a fabulous afternoon of laughter and learning. The kids were so excited to take home an Uno Card Set at the end of the event.
