How long have you been a member of momstown Milton : Since January 2013

Previous Job: Project Manager for a large Canadian retailer (until my mat leave). and before that, a Project Manager for a large telecom company

Describe your experience as a momstown Milton member :

momstown saved me in my early days as a new mom! I am a first time mom, and we didn’t really know anyone in Milton. I was very hesitant to attend my first event (Baby Basics) back in January, but I am so glad that I did. It was such a supportive and welcoming environment. It really brought me out of my shell and allowed me to connect with other moms, and the unconditional support I got from the events and the message board got me through those first tough months. I have made amazing connections and will carry those friendships for many years to come. I talk about momstown constantly and can’t stop recommending it to all of the new moms I meet in and around town.

Now I have the amazing opportunity of being the new Community Manager for momstown Milton and I am so excited! I have some great ideas for new programming, and I am looking forward to connecting with all members, old and new. One of the most rewarding things about my role is the ability to meet new members and help them experience everything momstown has to offer. I also can’t wait to work with all of our members to create programming and experiences that both moms and children can enjoy and learn from.

Please feel free to get in touch with me if you have any ideas/suggestions/comments on programming or content you would like to see added to our exciting calendar of events (or if you just want to chat about anything at all!).

Looking forward to seeing all of you in the days and weeks to come!

momstown Milton mom of the month - Vicki Santaguida - September 2013

Name:  Vicki Santaguida
Age: 34

Born In: Mississauga

Children’s name and age: Owen is 2 years old

Childhood Ambition: To be an architect

Fondest Memory:  My most recent memory has to be from the last big snow storm that we had. There was so much snow and my husband and I decided it would be fun to start cleaning the snow together with Owen. The plan was for Owen and me to stay out for a little and then come in to start dinner. Well, Owen had other plans. He refused to leave his work. He was so mad at me every time I brought him inside to warm up. Eventually my husband had to quite clearing and come inside to show Owen that we were done. His determination to help with the work has not changed yet…

Wildest Dream:  To live in a villa in Italy

Proudest Moment: Just a typical mom here. Watching Owen learn something new has to be the proudest. I was very proud when I figured out that he actually knew what everything was. A while ago when we were playing with play dough, I suggested that we needed a rolling pin. Owen got up, went to the kitchen, opened the right cupboard, pulled out a rolling pin for each of us, and came back for us to continue. I am not sure when I told him about the rolling pins.

Biggest Challenge: Finding the hours to get everything done. I think just a few extra hours tacked on to the end would be very helpful.

Perfect Day: One that involves no work and a crew of people making sure that all household jobs are done.

First Job:  I was a lifeguard and swimming instructor

Indulgence:  Crafting supplies. I enjoy trying new crafting styles resulting in a large overflowing crafting room.

Last Big Purchase: New siding and a new drive way; not even finished yet.

Favorite Movie or Favourite Sport? I have always played baseball and enjoy listening to a game on the radio.

How long have you been a member of momstown Milton? Since October 2011

Describe your experience as a momstown member? There is such a variety of events. I quite enjoy being able to try the events and host them. Owen and I are happy to be hosting the weekend baking buddies.

momstown Milton Mom of the Month: Kristin Reilly July 2013

Name: Kristen Rielly

Age: 33

Born In: Etobicoke, ON

Children’s name and age: Owen (13 months)

Childhood Ambition: To be a teacher

Fondest Memory: My husband, Andrew and I traveled to Scotland and Ireland in July 2010. We visited Newgrange and the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland and then to Skye and Fort William in Scotland. The only thing Andrew wanted to do during our holiday was climb Ben Nevis in Scotland (the highest peak in the UK) and he wanted me to do it with him! It took four hours to climb to the top but I was rewarded with a proposal! Needless to say, I literally ran and jumped all the way down the mountain finishing in less than two hours! We had a great time away and we still talk about our visit and when we can go back again but with Owen this time.

Wildest Dream: Visit South Africa one day. Andrew and I wanted to go this summer but people suggested it was wise to go later when Owen is older.

Proudest Moment: Becoming a mum to Owen. As soon as I recovered from the emergency c-section and realized he was finally here and he was all ours, I was so happy to meet him and say his name out loud. I wanted the world to meet him and share in our happiness.

Biggest Challenge: Balancing being a mum to Owen, a wife to Andrew, a friend to my girl friends and remaining true to who I was and am as a person. It’s been difficult but I’m trying to keep things in perspective and remind myself that I’m no good to anyone if I don’t take some time for me.

Perfect Day: A spa day. I would get up in the morning and have breakfast with my boys and then head off to the spa for a massage, mani-pedi and a facial. Lunch with the girls and then stop by Lululemon for some clothes shopping. I would finish off with a wander about Indigo sipping a Starbucks Vanilla Latte and looking at everything I wanted to without having to worry that someone had to be somewhere or was bored with how long I was taking.

First Job: Aside from babysitting, I was a ski instructor at Hockley Valley for 12 years.
Indulgence: Cakes and cupcakes! I love anything chocolate with icing! But hold the peanuts because I’m allergic!

Last Big Purchase: Paying off my pension!

Favorite Movie or Favourite Sport? The Proposal and Dirty Dancing

How long have you been a member of momstown Milton? Since October 2012

Describe your experience as a momstown member? I have had a great time meeting and getting to know the mums who have been out at the baby play groups that Owen and I have frequented. It was always a good feeling to be recognized and called by name each time we attended a different event. I have become involved in many different activities and have tried to introduce Owen to things that I would never do with him on my own! I remember the first time Owen and I painted at Scribble n’ Splatter and I thought it would be easy because I saw pictures from previous events that Sam had posted where the babies feet or hands were painted. Little did I know we would be doing abstract that first day out and Owen was covered from head to toe in paint! That soon became the norm for Owen!

Momstown was exactly what I needed during my time off. If not for the wonderful programs and full calendar of events, I feel as though Owen and I would have been pretty bored of one another. It provided an outlet for me to talk about things that Owen was doing and frustrations I may have been feeling at the time. It allowed me to talk without any judgement from anyone else and know that I was surrounded by other mums that may have been going through the same thing I was going through (or had been through if they were on their second or third baby).

Because of the momstown’s Health and Fitness Challenge for the summer, I have now joined Oxygen’s gym and have now met another group of wonderful ladies who share the same goals as I do. It’s been great getting to know Milton and all that it has to offer. Thank you so much Sam for everything you have done (knowingly or unknowingly) for Owen and I this past year. I have very much appreciated it. Owen and I are now looking forward to our summer break where we can attend more events during the week and keep up our socializing! Owen has certainly missed his pals.

momstown Milton: Mom of the Month: Paula Porter June 2013

Name:  Paula Porter
Age: 40
Born In: Toronto
Children's name and age: Zoe 3.5 and Skylar 22 months
Childhood Ambition: As a child I always wanted to be a veterinarian.  High School Chemistry and Math put an end to that ambition.  At that point my ambition became passing High School Chemistry and Math.
Fondest Memory: Quitting the corporate world to travel around the world for a year with my (now) husband.  It was the experience of a lifetime.  Now that we have kids I really look back on that year with fondness, thinking of how lovely it was to be so carefree, unscheduled and focused on one another.
Wildest Dream: My husband and I daydream of traveling with our girls in India and Africa.  We would also love to combine the travel with an international volunteer experience as a family one day when the girls are old enough.  I think that learning about other cultures, and experiencing life in other places is so important for them.
Proudest Moment: I have a couple.  The birth of my kids.  It is a pretty amazing feeling seeing a perfect little person who grew inside your belly.  Pure magic!  Completing the Chicago marathon in 2003 was a very proud moment.  It seemed like an impossible feat during training, but I did it.  I felt like I was Wonder Woman...even though I was really a slow poke.
Biggest Challenge:  Budgeting is my biggest challenge.  We have made the decision that we will be a one income family while the girls are very young, and that poses big challenges when it comes to budgeting and managing the expenses of a four person household.  I have made big improvements, but I begrudge the process often
Perfect Day: For starters, my perfect day would have zero melt downs...no tears at all!  We would go to the Farmer's Market, grab a coffee to walk with, buy the girls some popcorn, and do a little shopping.  After the Market we would go for a nice hike to Hilton Falls and roast hot dogs and marshmallows for lunch.  We would drive the girls to Burlington and they would have a fun sleepover with their cousins!  Chris and I would have an afternoon to get some work done in the back yard.  I would have a nap!  We would go out for a delicious dinner, and be in bed by 10!
First Job: Besides lots of babysitting, my first real paycheque came from making $4.75 an hour working at the Lottery/info booth at Sherway Gardens when I was 14.  Come to think of it, I wonder if it was even legal for a 14 year old to be selling lotto tickets!?  I was very young to be handling all the cash that came in on a Saturday shift!
Indulgence: My guilty pleasures are Crunchits and mini powdered donuts.  As I get older, I don't enjoy them with the same gusto that I once did, however they are still my go to munchables.  I also discovered a love of deep fried pickles with my second pregnancy.  Just answering this question makes me want to run out and get some!

Last Big Purchase: Our home in Milton.  This house has brought us a lot of joy.  Our last house was so tiny that having more than 3 people over at a time was stressful!  Now we are able to do a lot of
hosting, and we are loving it.  A house is always happier with lots of people in it.

Favorite Movie?  Tommy Boy...I have seen it a hundred times and it still makes me laugh.  I feel like my answer to this question should be more intellectual, but Tommy Boy just makes me happy!

How long have you been a member of momstown Milton?  I have been a member for just over a year.  I joined just before we moved to Milton last May.

Describe your experience as a momstown member?  My girls and I have really enjoyed being a part of momstown Milton.  I was amazed at the number of events and quality of events that were being run by the group.  I became a member with a goal to get out in the community once in a while and meet some friends for myself and for the girls.  momstown Milton became a community for us, and we have been kept very busy and very entertained by the group, and the events we have attended and hosted. It tell everyone that it is the deal of a century, for $45 a year.  This group has made all the difference for us as a new family in Milton.
I began working with Sam as Community Manager with momstown Milton and it has been a great chance to contribute to the group and become a part of the Milton community.  As Community Manager I help with managing the crazy busy calendar, work with trial and new members, assisting in organizing events, and run some popular programs including Baby Sensory Exploration, Junior Chef, Little Scientists, Recyclyed Treasures, and Trip Around the World.  It has been a wonderful opportunity to get to know the great mamas in the group, meet new people, and have a lot of fun with my girls.  I have met some great friends through momstown, and I love that so often when we are out and about in Milton, we run into familiar faces.

We would love to have you join us and become part of our momstown Milton family!

momstown Milton: Mom of the Month: Sarah Luskey May 2013

Name: Sarah Luskey
Age: 36 (ugh!)

Born In: Brampton, ON
Children’s name and age: Addisyn (2.5), Peyton (1)

Childhood Ambition: I always wanted to be a lawyer when I was a kid (probably cause I love a good debate) but knew in my heart that teaching was the profession for me... I did try to rebel though and went in to business first
but it only took about a year for me to head back to school and do what I always knew I would love.

Fondest Memory: Family vacations in Florida... Starting from a very young age we spent 3 weeks as a family in St. Pete's beach. We would go with my Aunt, Uncle and 2 cousins (who were both close in age to my brother and I). We spent 3 days driving there, playing games and stopping to eat and sleep in various places each year. There were many laughs and adventures along the way.
My favourite memory has to be of the time my cousin and I were left in charge of the younger two... Our parents were just outside having adult time around the pool but we manage to destroy the room with a couple cans of whipped cream, it was hilarious until we had to clean it all up! Since I value the memories created here so much, we have begun this tradition with our kids as well. Last year we took the girls to Disney for their first time and the whole family spent two weeks together at the beach... I love reliving those precious moments again through the eyes of my daughters!

Wildest Dream: I would LOVE to go skydiving but I'm not sure I would actually have the courage when it came down to it! So... I dream of a relaxing vacation with my hubby in Bora Bora, staying in one of those cabins with a window in the floor so that you can see right down in to the ocean.

Proudest Moment: I have many of these as the girls grow and develop each and every day, amazing me with the things they can do! However, the day they were born will always be the best thing I've ever done!

Biggest Challenge: Managing the balance between my professional and personal life. I am highly ambitious and have many goals for my future in education but have realized quickly that those things are going to happen
much slower now that I'm a Mom. I have to remind myself daily that I can't dedicate nearly as much time as I used to outside of my regular work day if I want to spend quality time enjoying my girls. If only there were more
hours in the day OR I didn't value my sleep quite as much as I do!

Perfect Day: Would start with a “sleep in”... I think I'd like to wake up some time around 9 :-) We would have a late breakfast/early lunch as a family and then go for a walk or a bike ride to the park so that the girls could play.
We would go out for dinner (so that I don't have to cook or clean up) and then have a snuggle and read a few good books with the girls before they headed to bed. I would then enjoy a relaxing bubble bath with a nice glass of red wine and a good book before settling on the couch for a movie and some alone time with my hubby!

First Job: I worked at the Sports Camp my Dad ran in Georgetown starting when I was 12... This was probably about the time I realized I was destined to work with young kids.

Indulgence: I have a MAJOR sweet tooth... I have a hard time resisting ANY type of candy, especially Mike & Ike's and ice cream! I compensate by spending much of my “me” time working out so that I can eat what I want!

Last Big Purchase: We purchased a new house in December 2011 in Georgetown... Although it's not built yet, we are super excited to move in 2014.

Favourite Sport: Although I love many sports, I am a die hard when it comes to baseball and volleyball. I spent a MAJOR part of my life playing girls softball in Brampton and miss it very much! I can only hope that one of my girls will love it as much as I did so that I can relive my passion for the game!
How long have you been a member of momstown Milton? Since July 2012

Describe your experience as a momstown member: Being a part of the momstown Milton family has been a great experience for me. I was worried after I had my second daughter that it would be difficult to balance the
needs of both girls with the financial strain of being on maternity leave however, joining Momstown made it easy!

There are so many wonderful activities available each and every day designed to target the interests of both babies and pre-schoolers. Some of our favourites include Chipmunks play-groups, Baby Basics, Art & Play, Junior Chef, Little Scientists, and Trip Around the World. Not only did these programs engage Addisyn's interests but they also gave me an opportunity to meet other Mom's and share ideas about dealing with the daily challenges of managing two young girls at home.

I also love how open Sam and her team are to new ideas and suggestions from their members. Hosting the Shake, Rattle and Read program allowed me to deal with some of my Mommy guilt about not doing anything that was just about Peyton. I know she really loved spending time with all the other babies and it allowed me to meet some really great first time Moms. Even though I have now
returned to work, I know that my momstown friends will still be there to offer support and we will definitely be joining some weekend activities so that we don't lose touch!

We would love to have you join us and become part of our momstown Milton family!

Describe your experience as a momstown member?  GREAT!  As a new member last fall, I was encouraged by how welcoming and inviting everyone was at each event we attended.  Baby Basics, Baby Sensory and Shake Rattle and Read have become regular parts of our weeks and it’s great to see Travis explore and try new things as he interacts with the other babies.  As a momstown member I also have made some great friendships and enjoy the willingness of other members as they answer my questions as a first time mom.

momstown Milton Mom of the Month: Samantha McIntosh March 2013

Name: Samantha McIntosh
Age:  34
Born In: Sudbury, On

Children’s name & age:Hannah 3, Claire & Charlotte 8 months

Childhood Ambition: Marine biologist

Fondest Memory: I have three: 1 - When my husband proposed at his family cottage in Flin Flon, MB,which is also where he first told me he loved me. 2 - Finding out we were finally expecting our first baby after 3 years of trying. 3 - Hearing the two strong heart beats of our twins.

Wildest Dream: Starting my own "home organization" business

Proudest Moment: Every time one of my daughters hits a milestone I think...wow I created these amazing little people

Biggest Challenge: Finding & enjoying some “me time” without feeling too guilty AND realizing that my husband is just as capable as I am to take care of the kids; even if he might not do things “ how I would”, at the end of the day everyone is all still in one piece.

Perfect Day: Any day where I don't hear "mommy look at me, mommy look what I can do, mommy, mom, mama, whaaaaaaaaa" a million times...a dozen is ok though :)

First Job: Paper delivery girl & cashier at local corner store

Indulgence: Red wine; although it is more of a staple in my house rather than an indulgence ;)

Last Big Purchase: A 5 day vacation to Jamaica with my best friend without the kids

Favorite Movie or Favourite Sport? GREASE

How long have you been a member of momstown Milton? Just over a year

Describe your experience as a momstown member?  Having no family around to help out, its wonderful to experience the kindness of everyone in the momstown Milton group & the support all the moms offer each other. Something as simple as another mom holding your baby (crying or not) so you can go to the washroom alone or distracting your toddler after a meltdown can mean the world when your just trying to make it through the day.

As a mom who wants to have her children experience everything life has to offer; I LOVE the 6 pillar program momstown has implemented. The calendar is always full of repeating & new events; giving me lots to choose from to help fill my days and keep myself & my kids busy.

I love the monthly themes & Hannah is always engaged no matter what event we attend. We both always look forward to our next get together and have both made some wonderful friends; I can't wait for the twins to make some great friends too.

Fondest Memory: The birth of my children. I know it's a typical answer but it really is
Wildest Dream: I want to travel the world

Proudest Moment: Becoming a mom

Biggest Challenge: Hubby is gone for 8 days for work and then home for 6. Raising my 2 kids by myself the weeks he's gone and trying to keep a routine going is pretty tough. I have a new appreciation for all the single mothers
Perfect Day: Any day that begins with a night where both kids slept through. I don't get very many.

First Job:

Describe your experience as a momstown member?
I wish I had known about momstown Milton when Bella was younger. I have made so many new friends and it is great to know that there is a support system right here in my neighbourhood when I need one. All the moms I have met have been very welcoming. I have been to a couple of Moms Night Out events that have given me a very much needed break and both my kids and I have made some new friends that I think we will have for a long time.

momstown Milton: Mom of the Month - Sarah Morrow

Name: Sarah Morrow

Age: 32
Born In: Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, UK
Children’s name and age: Caleb 15mths, baby due April 27th
Childhood Ambition: I wanted to be a vet
Fondest Memory:  My honeymoon, we went to Orlando Florida for 3 weeks and got to fly 1st class. For any who know me, I’m a HUGE DISNEY fan.
Wildest DreamThat I was going to give birth to a 13lb 13oz baby….I really hope that doesn’t happen…that would be scary! But seriously it would be to go on Holiday to Bora Bora and stay in a villa over the water!
Proudest Moment: Giving birth to Caleb and raising him with no family help other than from Hubby.
Biggest Challenge: Moving to Canada and starting from scratch.
Perfect Day: Like all mums, starts with a lie in and then spending the day with my boys at one of the Disney parks or SeaWorld. It ends with dinner at Olive Garden with wine.
First JobI was a cashier at the local supermarket
Indulgence: I suppose its DVD’s although since moving to Canada I’ve become a lot better.
Last Big Purchase: Our bed, we didn’t bring any furniture with us and we wanted to make sure we had a good bed as hubby had back issues in the UK.
Favorite Movie or Favourite Sport? I don’t really have a favourite movie, but love the Harry potter movies and the Star trek movies. Not a huge sports fan but have found that I quite like baseball since moving here.
How long have you been a member of momstown Milton? 1year 1month
Describe your experience as a momstown member? It’s been a life saver. I would have gone nuts being stuck at home all day not knowing anyone. The first year here I hardly knew anyone; I could count them on 1 hand. Since having Caleb and joining momstown Milton I've made so many friends, it’s helped in making Canada feel like home.
